Celeris Patent

Four years ago, Diagnosys released our Celeris Rodent Electrophysiology system. We are pleased to announce the U.S. Patent Office has issued a patent for the Celeris Electrode-Stimulator.

The need for an improved approach to more quickly and easily measure electrophysiological responses in mice and other rodents inspired our inventors to develop this revolutionary design. While existing systems do an excellent job measuring electrophysiological responses, they require substantial time and skill to accurately place both electrodes and stimulator. To provide an easier and faster way to measure these responses, our team successfully integrated the stimulator and electrode into a single device.

In one compact design, the Stimulator-Electrode both stimulates and records responses from the visual system. To stimulate, Diagnosys engineers designed a light pipe with LEDs on one end, and on the other end a concave surface to make contact with the rodent’s eye. To record, metal is wrapped around the perimeter of the light pipe, to conduct neural signals through a differential amplifier for graphing and analysis.

This design optimizes optical and electrical connectivity by fully illuminating the retina while picking up signals directly from the surface of the eye.

Additionally, since each eye can be individually stimulated, we can use the opposite eye as a reference – a method we call Touch/Touch. Celeris is truly a revolutionary design that is advancing the field of rodent electrophysiology in new and exciting ways!
